EU Healthy Workplaces Good Practice Awards: winners announced

By on

Six organisations have scooped the top prizes in EU-OSHA’s Healthy Workplaces Good Practice Awards.

Winners impressed the jury for their demonstrable good practice in managing dangerous substances, the focus of EU-OSHA’s latest campaign.

Winning organisations spanned a variety of workplaces. They include a hairdressing business that eliminated hazardous substances across its salons and a farming business that took measures to protect workers from exposure to dust.

Also in the list were a glazier trades association which developed a technique for safe handling of asbestos containing materials, a czech company that helped police in safely tackling the illegal drugs trade, a manufacturing firm in Sweden and a French road construction company.

A further four organisations were commended in the announcement on 17 September.

The jury considered how far interventions led to real and demonstrable improvements in OSH through a holistic approach involving worker participation and the commitment of management. In the announcement, EU-OSHA underlined that the interventions selected are “sustainable over time, transferable to other organisations or Member States, and go above and beyond national legislative requirements.”

Each of the awarded organisations will receive a trophy and each of the commended organisations will receive a certificate at a special ceremony at the Healthy Workplaces Summit in Bilbao in November.

Dr Christa Sedlatschek, EU-OSHA’s Executive Director, commented: "We are delighted to see so many strong and varied examples of good occupational safety and health practice in the context of managing dangerous substances.

“The winning examples are from enterprises and organisations of a wide variety of sizes and from various sectors, all with a common goal: to create a culture of prevention and protect workers from dangerous substances."
