    Explosion at West Bengal firecracker factory prompts call for greater enforcement

    The West Bengal government led by the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) and West Bengal police have been accused by opposition parties of failing to take sufficient action to close down illegal firecracker factories after a massive blast at a firecracker plant at a village in Duttapukur claimed the lives of at least nine people.

    Spate of blazes prompts call for greater focus on fire safety in Indian workplaces

    Politicians and the courts have demanded tougher action to protect people from fire and related injury risks in workplaces and commercial buildings after a spate of fires and accidents at factories and colleges across India left at least two people dead and many more seriously injured.
