Noida government protest ban halts worker demonstrations over wage rises

The annual International Labour Day on 1 May passed peacefully in Noida city, after the local government instructed police to deploy more than 1,700 officers to prevent a repeat of earlier demonstrations by workers demanding higher wages and better working conditions that saw factories attacked, stones thrown at police and hundreds arrested.
